EVE Bounty

Alright I saw this story and I just though it was amazing. For those of you who don’t know, MMO or MMORPG, or whatever acronym you give is basically stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Game. Which in english translates to, an online game, that never ends. The game that this article talks about is an Online Space game with a player run economy, so basically anything goes. You can buy ships, build corporations, rob banks etc. You might say big deal it is only a game, who cares if they stol emy 790 Billion Isk(in game money). Well the line gets fuzzy, because you pay a montly fee to pay the game, and if this is anything like Second Life in game money can be purchased using real money and vice-versa. Which means it is not just game money being stole it is actual currency.

I personally think this type of thing should be allowed, but there should defeintly be some sort of disclaimer to players stating that events that happen in the game by other players are not moderated by the developers. These people want a completely englufing experience and I think this just adds to that expeirence.

Now not only do you have to watch your money in real life you have to watch it in your Second Life as well.

Technology

technology
n 1: the practical application of science to commerce or industry [syn: engineering] 2: the discipline dealing with the art or science of applying scientific knowledge to practical problems; “he had trouble deciding which branch of engineering to study” [syn: engineering, engineering science, applied science]

I took this definition off of Dictionary.com. Dictionary.com referenced WordNet 2.0, 2003 Princeton University. I looked up this definition because I recently realized I would cringe whenever I would hear someone refer to a coding language, or design pattern as a technology. For instance “We develop on java technology.”. I don’t know why this irks me so, but I feel like a technology is something tangible, such as a hammer, or a computer, not a programming paradigm.

Thinking deeper into this annoying buzz word I realized the reason I probably don’t like it so much. It is because it seems to me that the only people using it are the same people who seem to make there job/programs seem so much more important than they actually are. I am not sure if anyone else knows what I am talking about but bascially someone who thinks they are important but aren’t. So they use big words like technology, and paradigm to make themselves feel like they know what they are talking about.

Going back to the begining of my post. I guess based on the above definition of technology, the java framework, or .net framework are technologies. But I will assume that the only people who refer to it, are people who need to feel better about what they do. So I will give them a big hug, and a smile and think to myself “Hello little one, one day you will move out of the world of buzz words and into the real world.”.

Remote PC w/ Nintendo DS

Well it seems I have been a slacker and not posted anything for awhile, but I have been working on some different projects, and will hopefully have something published soon. The homesearch is going good, so maybe I will post a final closing Home Search Article.

But the winner that has convinced me to do a new post is this amazing piece of software that i found through digg on 1Emulation.com. Someone has taken the time to write a VNC like program using your DS. I was wavering on whether or not to ask for one of these for my birthday, but I am so there now. My wife(jeni) is not excited cause it is just a portable way for me to not talk to her, but she is willing to get me one I think.

Anyways, if anyone has tried this out please let me know.

Digg Rss Feed

My first customization to the WordPress Engine was a success. So far I am very happy with the flexibility that the engine gives you. Essentially I wrote a wrapper to the lastRSS class (not part of wordpress), that would take a count. This wrapper stores the feed you want, and will return a Title/Link anchor for the “x” most recent posts to the feed. Where x is a parameter that you pass into the function. I choose my digg.com feed. So everyone that is interested in watching what I am reading there you go.

My next addition will hopefully be AdSense. I am still waiting to hear back from google as to whether I am approved. Keep your fingers crossed.
